Herbie was my jam as a kid! I’d love a replica built with Porsche parts... In the actual movie, they fitted one of the cars with a Porsche 365 engine so it could keep up with the other cars...

No need to spend mucho $$ in OEM Porsche parts. Plenty of readily available souped up beetle engines for sale.

I think the footage is sped up as well, but in order for it to look realistic the car already had to be going at a fairly brisk pace.
